Mahindra and Ford have joined hands together in the Indian market to develop new products. Both the brands have jointly announced the development of an all-new C-Segment SUV that is likely to replace the current version of the XUV500. The new SUV will also be sold as rebadged Ford models.
The all-new SUV will see a contribution from both the manufacturers. Mahindra will develop the platform for the upcoming SUV. Also, Mahindra will also provide the powertrain for the upcoming SUVs. The all-new SUV will take on the likes of Tata Harrier and even Jeep Compass in the Indian market.
The rendered image by our in-house rendered image expert – Vipin Vithoopan. The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 will look much more muscular and will also increase in the overall size. The front of the vehicle will get the Mahindra’s family design with a larger grille design.
The size of the vehicle will also increase to provide ample room to the last row seats. Apart from that, the upcoming XUV500 is expected to be much more stylish and get a much more angular and straight line design. The rendered image also shows that that SUV will get a floating-roof effect too.
The rebadged version of the Mahindra XUV500 will get a similar design but with a different grille set-up that will make it look more like a Ford vehicle. Other parts like the headlamps and the and body style will remain identical to each other. Both the SUVs get a similar overall design but parts like different bumpers and different LED DRL will make look unique.
Both the upcoming SUVs will get the all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that will be developed Mahindra. The all-new engine will be BS-6 compliant. The engine will produce a maximum of 180 Bhp. Both the SUVs will utilise the same engines and the power and torque outputs are likely to remain the same. Both the SUVs are also likely to get a 4WD system but as the demand for such vehicles is very low in India, we may only see the 2WD versions of the vehicles.
Ford, on the other hand, will develop the touchscreen system for the upcoming SUVs. Ford will also develop the telematics system for the upcoming SUVs that will be similar to the connected BlueLink system like the BlueLink system that will be offered with the upcoming Hyundai Venue. The all-new infotainment system will be similar to the Ford SYNC3 systems that are available with the new-generation vehicles like the EcoSport and the Endeavour. It should be noted that Mahindra will also supply a low displacement BS-VI compliant petrol engines in the market. With the co-development of the upcoming SUV, the price tag on the vehicles is likely to remain on the lower side.
