Toyota Glanza’s (rebadged Maruti Baleno) launch date revealed

Toyota Glanza, which is expected to be the name of the first rebadged product of the Suzuki-Toyota in India will be launched in the Indian market in June. Internally named as the A11, the price of the rebadged product will be announced on 6th June. This will be the first-ever premium hatchback from Toyota in the Indian market.

As per a new report on ACI, the Glanza will come with standard 3 years or 1 lakh km warranty. In comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno offers a standard warranty of 2 years or 40,000 km. Toyota will match the competitors like Honda Jazz and the Hyundai Elite i20 that offer the same 3 years or 1 lakh km warranty in the Indian market. Apart from the standard warranty, Toyota is likely to offer an additional extended warranty with the upcoming Glanza. Currently, Toyota offers 5 years extended warranty package and a 7-year Toyota Timeless warranty on their models in India.

Toyota will try to establish the same brand value with Glanza as it does with the vehicles like Innova Crysta and Fortuner in India. With the longer standard warranty schedule, Toyota will highlight the reliability factor in the vehicle.

It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza will be identical mechanically. Toyota will change a few parts like the front grille, alloy wheels,  bumpers to make it look different from the Maruti Suzuki’s product but the changes will not be as substantial. Also, the interior of the Toyota Glanza is expected to be different than the Baleno’s interior.

As per a leaked document, Toyota is likely to dispatch the new Glanza to the dealership by the end of this month. However, the launch will happen only in June when the official prices are announced. Before that, the vehicles will be put on display across the Toyota showrooms in India.

The Toyota Glanza will be available only in two variants, which are likely to be similar to Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s Zeta and Alpha trims. Also, the diesel option will not be available with the Glanza. Also, details about the petrol engine are not known. Recently, Maruti Suzuki announced the BS-VI compliant Baleno DuelJet petrol with the mild hybrid system in the Indian market. It is possible that Toyota’s version of Baleno is only available with the new DualJet SHVS engine option. This will force Toyota to put a premium entry-level price tag on the Baleno. Also, the new petrol engine is not available with an automatic transmission with the Baleno.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be the first of many upcoming rebadged products for the Indian market. In the future, rebadged Ciaz and Vitara Brezza will be launched in the Indian market too.
